Do I need to be a medical “patient” in order to use your service?
No. Many elderly people or those with disabilities or conditions that make it difficult to ride in a car for long distances use Ameritrans©. The design of our vans allows them to lie down at adjustable positions while enroute, or transfer to a full sized captains chair if they choose to sit or recline during the transport.

My elderly father cannot travel alone on an airplane and we would like for him to join us for the holidays at our home 450 miles away. Do you provide this type of service?
Yes. We will pick your father up at his home or nursing facility and transport him to yours.

Would it be all right for a family member or a caretaker to ride along during a transport?
Yes. We welcome one other rider to accompany the patient and there is no extra charge for this service.

My mother will be traveling with your service from a hospital in Florida to my home in Colorado. She will need medication enroute. Can you give her the medication that her doctor has ordered?
Ameritrans© Paramedics will be accompanying her and are able to assist patient or caregivers with meds while enroute. Caretakers, family members, or friends who accompany the patient may administer medication according to the wishes of the patient, their doctor and according to that person’s skill and training.

What hours will you pick-up and transport a patient?
We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Many people prefer to be transported at night so that they can sleep during the trip. In many cases, doctors will order a sedative for a patient to have prior to their transport to help them relax while enroute. Others want to be awake during transport to watch TV or to look outside while they are traveling.

I was transported in an ambulance when I first became ill, and couldn’t imagine traveling that way for a lengthy trip. What does your vehicle look like?
Ameritrans© operates brand new late model customized Ford E250 vans. While lying on the stretcher, you are surrounded by tinted picture windows that allow you to see outside while traveling. A TV/DVD screen folds out of the ceiling if you wish to watch movies. Unlike an ambulance which is usually a big diesel truck, our vans ride like passenger vehicles so the ride is very smooth. Rear air conditioning and heating controls allow you to adjust the climate for your own comfort. A friend, caretaker or family member may ride beside you in a comfortable captain’s chair.

What kind of notice do you need to schedule transportation?
We schedule our transports on a first come first serve basis. There is no required time frame but, if there is a definite date and time that you are needing, you should preschedule with us as soon as you have the information, even if it is weeks in advance.

Will there be a way to check on my grandfather’s status while he is on the road?
Yes, All Ameritrans vehicles are monitored and tracked to the minute via global satellite devices on their vehicles. This information keeps us informed of their speed, route changes, upcoming traffic detours and estimated time of arrivals. All drivers are in constant two way radio communication with our dispatch center and through cellular phones. This GPS technology also allows the driver to make the most efficient choices for fuel and food stops as well as medical care if it became necessary.

Will you file my insurance for me?
Ameritrans© will provide you with a detailed invoice of our service that you may submit to your insurance company. We rarely run into insurers who will reimburse for any type of non-emergency service. If you have a case manager that is specifically approving the transport, we will certainly file for you after we receive authorization from them. Medicare will not pay for non-emergency transportation.

What is the cost of this service?
Ameritrans©, even with its unprecedented service, is still much less expensive than an ambulance. We are not an ambulance service and do not provide medical care during transport. We do use licensed paramedics and EMT’s because of their training and experience in transporting patients and conducting themselves within the healthcare arena. Cost is based on distance and location. Please call or email us for a specific quote.
